CAPE TOWN'S CULINARY SCENE

Food is more than just nutrition. In fact, there is really nothing in the world that brings people together quite like food. Whether in the northern or southern hemisphere, food is an emotion, food is nourishment.

CHERISHING GOOD FOOD IS A LIFESTYLE.

Cape cuisine is all about fresh and locally sourced ingredients. This is no surprise, given that Cape Town is surrounded by fertile farmlands and pounded by a bracing Atlantic ocean. No wonder that the city attracts talented chefs and is regularly ranked as one of the top culinary capitals of the world.

Besides many projects that demonstrate the importance of linking urban farmers and communities, foraging and farm-to-table-produce have taken over the culinary scene. Chef Liam Tomlin from the Chefs Warehouse restaurant, for example, welcomes nature’s bounty in his masterful tapas creations with seasonal mushrooms on the menu when available.

The Werf Restaurant at Boschendal wine farm focuses on contemporary farm-to-table dining using the best available local, seasonal and ethically sourced ingredients as does the historic Cape Dutch farm, Babylonstoren, which is famous for its romantic garden labyrinth, offering fruits, vegetables, berries, bees for pollination and many flowers.

No visit is complete without at least one full day of exploring some of the restaurants offering superb produce. This pulsating city will leave you hungry for more.
